Yellowstone national park

Yellowstone National park is a geo thermal wonderland, world's first national park and is also one of the supervalcanoes of the world !! Prismatic, colorful hot water pools, geysers, lush meadows, waterfalls, rivers and wildlife will take your breath away!! About two third of world's geothermal features are in Yellowstone NP. When eye witness described these features in the area in 19th century, no one was willing to believe. In 1871 the Hayden expedition set out to survey the sources of the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers. Thomas Moran joined as artist of the team and painted many of Yellowstone's geologic features and landscapes. That helped convince the Congress to declare the area what we now know today as the world's first national Park.

Technical info: All the pictures are single shot images. No fanciful HDR and no merging of multiples exposures involved. I do not use Photoshop. Images shot as raw files and processed in Lightroom

  • While driving back from Hayden Valley, came across beautiful reflection of clouds in the yellowstone river during sunset! Looked for some interesting foreground, and there it was ..the wildflowers!! People often throng to the Hayden Valley overlook , .5 mile away and this gem seems to go unnoticed.

  • Hayden valley and yellowstone river during sunset. Clouds contributed to spectacular sunset! In June, the snow had just melt and the meadows were lush green.

  • Grand prismatic spring is the largest and one of most colorful spring in Yellowstone national park! The colors are especially vibrant in sunshine. Beneath is the magma chamber of the super volcano that heats up the water resulting into hot spring. Fine particles in the water scatter the sunlight to create intense blue color. The orange colors are created by thermophiles, heat loving microorganisms!! The best view of grand prismatic is aerial or you could climb up the hills next to it and shoot from there.

  • Very adorable bear cub on the tree. Mommy was below the tree and was aware that we were watching the cubs. Had to maintain safe distance as sow (mother bear) can be very aggressive and protective about her cubs.

  • Spotted Grizzy bear at some distance from the canyon area. Grizzly bears can be very aggressive. Two tourists were killed in 2011 by grizzly bear in this area. Hence important to maintain a distance. I always kept my telephoto lens on in this area and it paid off!! The bear is at the edge of Snake river and was aware that we were watching it.
